The Friends of St.
Mary's exists to secure the future
of this historic house and its contents, together with its extensive
gardens so that the house, together with its remaining gardens, can
continue to be enjoyed by the many thousands of visitors yearly.
Since its formation in 1991, the Friends have been instrumental in
raising funds for restoration projects through membership subscriptions
and organising events and functions. The projects supported
include the restoration of the Monks' Walk,
the installation of a shutting window,
reinstatement of the blocked-up window in the east
facade, display cases for the
collections held at St. Mary's, installation of a
small stained-glass window in the Music Room, and new
decorative cornices in the Music Room. Most
recently, £13,000 was raised towards the rebuilding of the
main Music Room
window, and funds have also been raised for the new
Music Room roof and the replacement of the
wooden guttering and downpipes.
However, restoration work is an ongoing task, and your help is
urgently needed! |
