Concerts and Events 2012

All tickets, except the open-air play, include refreshments: afternoon tea, or wine and canapés in the evening. All performances, except the open-air play, take place in the elegant Victorian Music Room at St Mary's House.

MR DICKENS IS COMING!

To celebrate Charles Dickens' bicentenary, actor Gerald Dickens, presents a light-hearted and varied look at the life and character of his great great grandfather. Using scenes from his writings, diary extracts, and observations from those who knew him, Gerald brings to life the great writer.

Peter Thorogood introduces a selection of his compositions, and music which has influenced him. Followed by a Diamond Jubilee celebration tea with strawberries.

MUSIC AND REMINISCENCE

Philip Gammon, who worked with the Royal Ballet as principal pianist and conductor for 41 years, talks about his long career, the choreographers and dancers he has worked with, and plays some of his favourite ballet music.

An open-air performance of Shakespeare’s famous play in full Elizabethan costume by ‘The Lord Chamberlain’s Men’.

A sparkling evening of songs from opera, operetta and musical theatre by 'Not Pavarotti', a group of four gifted opera singers, with piano accompaniment.

A virtuoso recital of 18th century music by this highly-acclaimed ensemble of recorders, cello and harpsichord.

THE KALEIDOSCOPE SINGERS IN CONCERT

The vibrant Kaleidoscope Singers with Musical Director Zoe Peate celebrate their special 10th anniversary with some of their favourite repertoire performed over the last decade! Music will include folksongs by Percy Grainger, Bob Chilcott's 'Londonderry Air', Madrigals and the lighter side of their wide repertoire.

ST. MARY'S TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS CRACKER

A grand celebration of Christmas words and music drawn from Peter Thorogood's archive of poetry, prose and seasonal music. With Jacquelyn Fugelle (soprano), Susan Legg (contralto), Neil Jenkins (tenor), Giles White (bass) and Terence Allbright (piano).
