'LIFTING THE LID' - with David Owen Norris

The composer, pianist and  broadcaster (as seen on BBC Proms Extra) plays his fascinating repertoire and reveals some of the more extraordinary experiences of his life in music. A piano recital with a difference, including music by Elgar, Walton, Byrd, Purcell and Billy Mayerl. David also lets us into the secrets of Parry’s famous setting of Blake’s  ‘Jerusalem’.

SERENADE TO MUSIC

Worthing Symphony Orchestra members perform beautiful music for strings. The Worthing Symphony Orchestra is widely regarded as one of the finest professional orchestras in the south of England. The programme includes music by Elgar: Serenade for Strings, Chanson de Matin, and Salut d’Amour; William Boyce Symphony No. 4, music by Armstrong Gibbs, Rudolph Friml and others.

Diva Opera presents a wonderful evening of arias and ensembles from operas including Mozart The Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute, Puccini La Bohème, Verdi La Traviata and Saint-Saens Samson and Delilah, plus some lighter music from Johann Strauss Die Fledermaus, and songs from Gilbert & Sullivan operettas.

Another chance to enjoy this fascinating and amusing delve in to the St Mary's film archives. You will see a rare film of former owner Dorothy Ellis, Peter Thorogood and Roger Linton being interviewed by one of James Bond's glamorous girlfriends(!), excerpts from a classic 1988 episode of Dr Who, episodes from Prince Edward's Crown and Country TV series, and many other delights.

ST MARY'S TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS CRACKER

A grand celebration of Christmas in words and music with some pleasant surprises chosen from Peter Thorogood’s archive of poetry and prose. Join us in a joyous, reflective, festive programme of songs, carols and seasonal readings.

Susan Jameson and James Bolam have made many stage appearances and been seen in many television series, including the BBC’s popular New Tricks. Susan Legg mezzo-soprano and Giles White baritone are accompanied by Terence Allbright piano.
