DAME JOAN PLOWRIGHT

in conversation with Richard Digby Day

Dame Joan, one of Britain's most distinguished actors, was married to Sir Laurence Olivier for 38 years. She has played in the West End and on Broadway, she has over 70 film credits to her name, including 101 Dalmatians and Tea with Mussolini, and she was nominated for several Academy Awards. She talks about and reflects on her life with the well-known stage director, Richard Digby Day.

ST. MARY'S TRADITIONAL PALM COURT TEA

Recapture the pleasures of times past, and enjoy a scrumptious English afternoon tea with Shelley van Loen (violin) and her Palm Court Players. Among countless past engagements they have had the honour of playing for Her Majesty the Queen on a number of royal occasions, and played for Sir Lawrence Olivier on his 80th birthday celebration.

As the incomparable Beatrice and her begrudging match Benedick are tricked into confessing their love for each other, hilarious and heart-stoppingly romantic consequences ensue. Complete with jealous schemes and a whole host of delightfully cheeky characters, this light-hearted love story is sure to entertain and enthral. As you picnic beneath midsummer skies, allow the magic of the masquerade to capture your imagination and whisk you far away.

The world-famous mezzo-soprano performs a recital of songs and arias, with Terence Allbright (piano).

She has sung at most of the major opera houses, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Bavarian State Opera and the English National Opera, and at the BBC Proms.

THE COVENT GARDEN MINUET COMPANY

This spectacular group of dancers, resplendent in their authentic 18th century style costumes, revisits St. Mary’s to entertain us for our celebration year, in the elegant setting of our Music Room.  Join us for an afternoon of gavottes and minuets, and after the interval, the audience get to join the dancers and try out some of the steps!

'THE FOSSIL LADY OF LYME' - The Story of Mary Anning

The welcome return of actress Alison Neil in her entertaining one-woman play telling the fascinating story of Mary Anning who, at the age of 12, discovered the first complete fossil of a prehistoric reptile in Great Britain. The tale of her life, her friendships, her struggle to make her mark (and put food on the table) is both amusing and moving....And, by the end of the show, you will surely know the difference between an ichthyosaur and a plesiosaur!
