WATERLOO 200th ANNIVERSARY, 1815-2015

DR SIMON LEE, Associate Professor in the History of Art at Reading University, talks about Napoleon in painting and tells of his sensational discovery of a portrait by the artist David.

In the second half, an entertainment of words and music has been devised for the occasion - music by Haydn, Stanford, and poems by Wordsworth, Byron, Southey, Shelley and Thomas Hood. With actors SUSAN JAMESON and JAMES BOLAM, SUSAN LEGG mezzo-soprano, ANDREW MACKENZIE-WICKS tenor and TERENCE ALLBRIGHT piano

LECTURE-RECITAL BY NEIL JENKINS

A portrait in words and music of John Beard, the leading 18thC tenor who sang in most of Handel's oratorios and was a favourite of David Garrick. There will also be an opportunity to purchase signed copies of Neil Jenkins' book on John Beard. NEIL JENKINS tenor, GARY BRANCH piano.
