Recent projects completed, which have been made possible through the
generous support from charitable trusts and foundations, and with the
help of the
Friends of St. Mary's, include:
2003 - The
replacement of the Music Room window, which was rotting away and in
danger of falling out. Donations via the Friends of St. Mary's and
private individuals in response to the Music Room Window appeal resulted
in about £30,000 being raised to cover the cost of the new window.
2003 - The Music Room was re-roofed,
thanks to a grant of £15,000 from Viridor Credits.
2004 - Victorian Garden: the parterre
garden has been planted with box hedging, and the former circular
orchard with a ring of yew trees, thanks to grants from the Stanley
Smith Horticultural Trust and the John Spedan Lewis Foundation.
2005 - The wooden guttering and downpipes have
been replaced in traditional style elm, thus ensuring the fabric of the
house is watertight. This was enabled by a grant of
£10,000 from Viridor Credits and other smaller grants (see below)
2005 - Victorian Garden: A semi-circular pergola has been erected in the
former circular orchard for screening purposes.
2006 - Stove house and pineapple pits in
the Victorian Garden - phase 1 of the restoration has been completed,
thanks to grants from the CGA Charitable Trust and The Sussex
Gardens Trust.
2007 - a complete restoration/repair of
all the leaded lights was completed, including refurbishment of two
stained glass panels, with a grant from Viridor Credits.
2008 - Installation of new bookshelves
(housing a complete set of Punch) in the Music Room
